Novel Ideas 2023

I first attended Novel Ideas Art Book Fair a few years prior (pre-pandemic) and was blown away by the work of incredible creators of literary and printed work.

I had the privilege to table BT comics/book, along with zines, and cards for sale at this free event at Contemporary at Blue Star!

FL!GHT Gallery

Included Layers 02, from the Sudden Anamnesis series, in the exhibition I Wonder If We’ll Even Remember We Came Here at FL!GHT, located in the Blue Star Art Complex.

This group featured work by 48 artists for the gallery’s 21st anniversary celebration of showing Contemporary Art in San Antonio.

This was my first time showing work with Nepantla Cultural Arts in Seattle, WA! This exhibition was a celebration of the wonderful work they do with the Chicana/o Latinx, community for the past 4 years.

A Story Like Mine

This was an incredible experience working with a talented team of comic creators from across the country who showcased selected original works on paper and reproductions.

I also had the fortunate opportunity to work alongside an incredible human being and super-talented cartoonist, Micah Bornstein, with whom I curated this exhibition with!

Cover Artist for La Prensa Texas

July 2021

LOCAL COMMUNITY NEWS SAN ANTONIO
I was honored to be a cover artist for La Prensa Texas for the month of July. “Established in 1913, La Prensa Texas is a historic, independently-owned English and Spanish newspaper and online publication.”

I recently spoke with La Prensa’s Editor In Chief, Roxanne Eguia about what inspired the series, Byzantine Dreams, and shared a little about an exciting upcoming comic/zine project that I’m working on with my good friend and fellow cartoonist, Micah Bornstein. I had the opportunity to show a new series of work, Byzantine Dreams, in the group exhibit, Resurgence, alongside some of San Antonio’s premier painters.

Byzantine Dreams explores the theme of isolation and the anticipation of change in this ongoing series.

Boney Toe, Issue Two

March 2021

Boney Toe: For All The Marbles, Part Two

Debuted the second issue Boney Toe. I began this project as a collaboration with my father whose childhood experience growing up in San Antonio, Texas in the 1950s and 60s inspired most of this story. He recorded stories on audio cassettes and mailed them to my home in Chicago until illness prevented him from continuing this process. His passing in 2018 brought this project to a halt until I decided to resume work at the end of 2019.

Issue Three is currently in the works and is expected to drop in the fall of 2021.

I was selected as an artist to participate in San Antonio’s 2020 Dia de Los Muertos celebration, presented by La Gloria. My piece titled, “Resilient Love”, was inspired by the nopales (cactus) that I missed seeing in the urban landscape while living in the Midwest for nearly 15 years.
